I moved to Montclair from my small bungalow in the Haight-Ashbury with my soon-to-be wife, Robin. 5834 Merriewood Drive was a SEars catalog home built at the turn of the century in the Oakland hills. It was a summer cabin that was added onto. With the prospect of kids on the way, we decided to add a second and third story. The view was a two-bridge view of the Bay and Golden Gate bridges. It was a beautiful setting. Our house fwas eight houses away from the Oakland hills fire, which burned over 3,000 homes. We were spared but just barely!
