My parents moved to Teaneck, NJ, from Jackson Heights, Queens, NY, when I was 10 months old. Teaneck was named the model town in America in 1949 (click Teaneck for the story). I lived there until I was 17 or 18 and then went off to New England College. A short-lived first college try, but it got me out of the house of my parents and siblings! My parents were Catholic and sent me to Ascension School in New Milford. From kindergarten until eighth grade, I was in Catholic school with all the trappings and the constraints. I was a red headed antzy kid, and Catholic school was no place for me, Lord knows!
