Lukewarm Solitude
In the lukewarm solitude of my mind
Sitting alone and staring blind
Enveloped numb by the fear of life
Frozen solid by its constant strife
My body aches over the gaping issues
With tears long gone, absorbed in tissues
Yet resolution is far from near
As my heart beats on another year
I linger on the joys of youth
Then I’m slapped again by the daily truth
I sit and ponder the good and bad
Giggling some, then turning sad
Watching children struggle as they learn to play
Then suddenly, old age calls me away
To an aging process that seems unfair
But is the only means to get me where
My destiny and my choices meet
Then the infamous maker, I will surely greet
So in my lukewarm solitude as I blankly stare
My best reflection is a life of care.
The last years of my life you see
Can be the ones to make me free
Eternal rest or eternal strife
Are merely reflections of a life
The rights, the wrongs, the indecision
Become one thing with no revision
This verse right here is proof enough
To attempt to show I had the stuff
To leave a word for my fellow being
To show, I searched for some greater meaning
But I know the search is only that
Till its over, we just sit pat.
So I’ll end this verse with a tear in my eye
And say to you, just go out and try.

Forfeit
We have given up our morals
For money
We have anesthetized our minds
For vice
We borrowed our future
For now
We have turned a corner on justice
For safety
We have humiliated our idols
for spite
We have closed our eyes
For ease
We have forfeited our lives
For naught
We
forfeit
And lose
The end

The perfect spot
To Rita
If you stand in the right spot, nature can soothe every sense.
Breezes can warm and cool the skin.
Fragrances can please and tickle the nose.
The sky and landscape can marvel the eyes and fill the heart
The sound of silence can sing aloud-just listen
The summation of all can consume the mind in a place no better.
All it takes is one spot and the right frame of mind.
Try it
When vision meets desire GF 02/02/05
When the moment of inspiration
Sparks the torch of dedication
Things happen
At Gettysburg, the words were few
A haiku says it all
Enough is enough
What combination of creation and
Fascination makes the treasures
We seek?
The lifting of deeds to legend and
Words to immortality are mysterious
To me – and you
The calculation is precise, the technique
Honed are not enough to predict
The art we strive for
The value of our souls
The reflection of our minds
Blend as we view
The great
Our spine straightens
Our hair stands at attention
In the presence of
The real
Yet all the power,
All the Capital
Cannot make the
Pure and unique
It comes when it comes
It lasts forever
We live for it
We die achieving it
I bow to it.
A Steady Retreat
The horns cry out
The call to arms
The war has just begun
Defend the right!
Defend the right!
The call to all to drum
We will prevail!
We will prevail!
They fight until their death
We’ll fight again!
We’ll fight again!
The horns cry out...
Once more

Yellow fuzz
Yellow fuzz tingled
The air coated half
Still - motionless - decent
The lower half fell
Breeze pushed past as
Yellow fuzz tingled
The string mesh whooshed
Struck – center sweet
The elastic strings
Kissed in compression
Yellow fuzz tingled
The tumbled orb flew
Rushed across – down
The bottom line hit
Bounced - scuffed up - returned
Yellow fuzz tingled
The point was made

tick-tock
tick-tock that tacky time
as I sit here creating rhyme
tick-tock that timeless time
as I sit here spending mine
tick-tock that incessant time
as I sit here defending mine
tick-tock that curious time
as I sit here thinking all is fine
tick-tock that waning time
as I sit here alone with mine
tick-tock that fleeting time
as I sit here wanting more to mine
tick-tock that precious time
as I sit here creating one more rhyme
tick-tock that tacky time
Happiness is there, always
. A pair of smiling faces bounced up into view, then disappeared. Giggling pajama bodies jumped up and down inside the third-story brick-framed window. Christmas lights twinkled behind them. Sticky hands pushed up onto the cold, wet window, and two faces smiled out as steam rose past waiting cars on the slick street below. They bounced and pointed, laughed and wiggled, unaware of the Salvation Army bell that clanged through the rainy night air as people rushed by. The traffic honked, the cherubs played, a priceless game in the single window. The old building housed the homeless. It looked warm and inviting that night. The traffic light turned green. I drove on.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night

Was that?
Was that my life I saw fleeting by as though it was going somewhere?
Was that me chasing after it as though it mattered?
Was that the feeling I get when my life gets away from me?
Was that the pause I take as I look into the distance?
Was that the smile I crack when I realize it’s OK?
Was that the line I wrote to document the moment?
Yup, It was.

Just read it
All alone in bed
All alone, I sit in bed
Nightstand filled with things once read
I ponder over things I’ve said
Wishing, in short, to be dead

The distance is closer
The distance is closer, the past closer too
The present is far away
Each moment a beaten moment
Each day is an expired day
Drive is overrated
Ambition can be robbed
Left with sighs and lethargy
Raped of ideas, tricked by authority
Negative, yes, negative
I am positive.

Social Upheaval
Social upheaval is continual
But it is also sporadic in terms of impact and intensity.
The masses only rise when conditions are so unbearable that a willingness to endure the reprimand is acceptable.
Yet the contented few remain that way only fleetingly and cause unrest due to the discomfort with complacency.
The most significant change occurs when these classes and forces combine. The miserable are angry, and the status quo is boring.
They befriend change, and it has its way with them.

The little folk
The little folk
Are every folk
We all are small at heart
Our visions large
Our desires strong
Most will fall behind
The tragedy of a faltered pace
The lost dream of youthful gate
The little folk
Are we all
We reflect ourselves in spirit
Our common plight
Ur shared ignorance
Most must ignore it
The rest endure it
Is our fate final
The little folk
Are among us all
We are they
Our brothers and our sisters
Our sorrow shared
Most live on despite it
The end is always present
Is this where we live
The little folk are every folk

Subtle Suicide
He ate too much
Drank at will
Missed the curfew
Ignored the advice
The warnings were there
Puffing fags
Winded after walks
Restless during sleep
Worried but why
A slow process
Meaningless job
Ambition spent
dreams abandoned
The end is near
Sloth and sarcasm
Time blasted time
The wait was over
No happy ending
The end

Sly Destiny
The fates and free will
A debate as long as thought
Is all circumscribed or random
Are we led or free range
The vision is open
The vision is clear
Directed or unattended
Sly destiny
The future and the past
A debate from here to there
Is all around us real or not
Are we part of apart
The view is dim
The view is blocked
Directed – yes – no
Sly destiny
You are that

Laughter – Laughter
As the laughter died down
He thought of the next prepared line
Delivery was everything
The show was a hit
Twenty cities in a month
Laughs galore
Reviews a hit
History repeats
His father was a hit
No word from his Mom
She got the news, clipped it
Her boy was doing great
She hoped his Dad would flop
The crowd replaced all
The laughter filled the needs
Laughter ah laughter

A few feet away
His hand quivered as he
Looked into the windows of Tiffany’s
At first, no one noticed him
Then his sad, sincerely sad look caught the patrons
Looking around at the glitter and gold and
Then his rages and ruin
A policeman was moving him on
They could see the silent berating
Then he was gone and
They went back to the business of shopping

one Christmas
A Happy One
A little burp rather than a giggle
The baby is so cute
A smile and a cooing coo
The baby is adorable
A loaded diaper, then a content look
The baby is so needy
Held and cuddled securely
The baby is so safe
